DESCRIPTION:Our chapter will be participating in Decatur’s MLK\, Jr. Service Project this year to pay tribute to Dr. King’s legacy. Join members of NOMAtlanta\, and our student NOMAS chapters from Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State to partner in a day of service.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDecatur’s MLK\, Jr. Service Project is a community-building initiative that unites people from all walks of life in pursuit of the “Beloved Community” ideal. Its mission is to provide free home maintenance and repairs to senior citizen homeowners in Decatur during the MLK\, Jr. holiday weekend. We will be volunteering for the project by doing yard work at one of the homes. Please come dressed for warmth and comfort and be ready to make a positive impact. Shift is scheduled from 9am – 1pm. \n\n\n\nFollow the “Volunteer Registration” Link below to sign-up as part of our group. DESCRIPTION:Designing with Perforated Metal Panels and Products 104: 1 AIA LU|HSW\n\nOffering almost endless pattern options as well as design versatility\, perforated panels and assorted perforated metal products are exploding in popularity. Perforated metal panels can provide semi-privacy\, reduce heat and glare\, act as an equipment screen\, an infill panel through stairwells and so much more. After completing this course\, attendees will have an understanding of what to expect with flatness and what the tolerances are for strength of metal versus percentage open. Participants will also understand how to achieve smooth and safe perforated products and the equivalent solid metal concept when it comes to choosing what percentage open will be best for the selected design.\n\nAfter attending this class\, you will:\n\n 	Understand the equivalent solid metal concept and how it relates to perforated panels\n\n\n 	Understand how percentage open in perforation design is related to tensile strength of metal and what gauge is utilize\n\n\n 	Understand the basic decisions in order to choose a perforated product and how each of those effect cost\n\n\n 	Learn about the importance of smooth perforations and post-fabrication painting to create a safe\, sharp edge free product.\n\n\n 	Will know the pros and cons between perforated\, expanded metal or wire cloth\n\n\n 	Understand how choices in assembly\, metal thickness and pattern effect flatness.

DESCRIPTION:SPIKE Studio is proud to bring you our 2022 Summer Academy Live and In-Person at Georgia Piedmont Technical College! \nThis year’s SPIKE Studio Academy experience will explore the true definition of family within the greater community in post COVID world. Today we are all contemplating the true definition of “returning to normalcy” and what it means to reconnect as a community. This year’s project elements and construction will explore and engage the students on ideas and memories of home\, human interaction. \nStudents (Grades 8-12) will design a structure in their own property that can be private or inclusive of their extended community. The space and construction will explore engaging both personal space as well as the community. In addition\, students will be exposed to design exercises and speaker presentations that explore cultural celebrations\, sustainability\, public health\, and similar design projects that reinforce the project themes from architects\, engineers and other industry professionals.

SUMMARY:NOMAtlanta Project Pipeline Program 2022
DESCRIPTION:Our annual summer camp empowers young people to affect change in their community through design. By connecting young people to real-world architects and planners\, we help foster the next generation of design professionals\, civic leaders\, and changemakers while advocating for increased inclusiveness\, diversity\, fellowship\, equity\, and excellence in design throughout Metro Atlanta. Pipeline students are asked to think creatively about the spaces around them and are allowed to investigate how they can best influence those spaces. Each day consists of various hands-on activities and learning sessions designed to encourage students to synthesize and interpret new information as they develop a new building for their city to engage with. By the end of camp\, Pipeline students would have created the structure that would fit within their city blocks for a better city and designed a community that reflects their academic\, cultural\, and design interests! \n
