DESCRIPTION:SPIKE Studio is proud to bring you our 2022 Summer Academy Live and In-Person at Georgia Piedmont Technical College! \nThis year’s SPIKE Studio Academy experience will explore the true definition of family within the greater community in post COVID world. Today we are all contemplating the true definition of “returning to normalcy” and what it means to reconnect as a community. This year’s project elements and construction will explore and engage the students on ideas and memories of home\, human interaction. \nStudents (Grades 8-12) will design a structure in their own property that can be private or inclusive of their extended community. The space and construction will explore engaging both personal space as well as the community. In addition\, students will be exposed to design exercises and speaker presentations that explore cultural celebrations\, sustainability\, public health\, and similar design projects that reinforce the project themes from architects\, engineers and other industry professionals.

DESCRIPTION:Our annual summer camp empowers young people to affect change in their community through design. By connecting young people to real-world architects and planners\, we help foster the next generation of design professionals\, civic leaders\, and changemakers while advocating for increased inclusiveness\, diversity\, fellowship\, equity\, and excellence in design throughout Metro Atlanta. Pipeline students are asked to think creatively about the spaces around them and are allowed to investigate how they can best influence those spaces. Each day consists of various hands-on activities and learning sessions designed to encourage students to synthesize and interpret new information as they develop a new building for their city to engage with. By the end of camp\, Pipeline students would have created the structure that would fit within their city blocks for a better city and designed a community that reflects their academic\, cultural\, and design interests! \n

DESCRIPTION:Join NOMA for a Hard Hat Tour on Saturday 3/27. \nTour will be by Corey Riley of Cooper Carry. \nOnly 20 slots are available on a “First Come\, First Served” basis for registration. Participants must provide their own transportation\, their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and be masked. \n5 slots will be held for student members. \nRegistration link will be sent to members to sign up. \nThe tour is slated to start at 10AM and may last 1 to 2 hours.

DESCRIPTION:Coffee (or Cocktail) Connect is a no-frills way to meet other women one-on-one within ULI with the goal to broaden professional networks and strengthen industry connections. This month\, ULI’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) is teaming up with NOMA Atlanta (National Organization of Minority Architects) to connect women in all sectors of the industry in a more meaningful and intentional way. \nParticipants will be placed in pairs with the mission to connect and “meet” on your own time. Participants can plan to meet in person or virtually during the month of March. DESCRIPTION:MODERATOR\nMarsha Anderson Bomar\, F. ASCE\, F. ITE\, AICP\, ENV/SP Trainer\nAssistant General Manager for Capital Program Delivery\nMARTA\nMarsha Anderson Bomar is the Assistant General Manager of MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority) for Capital Program Delivery with a $400M per year budget.  She is currently serving her fourth term as Council Member for the City of Duluth\, Georgia and has been Mayor Pro Tempore three times. Previously she served as the Executive Director of the Gateway85 Community Improvement District\, the largest CID in the state of Georgia. Prior to the CID\, she was the Founder and President of Street Smarts\, Inc.\, a planning\, engineering and design firm\, and Data Smarts\, a data collection and management firm\, established in 1990\, both of which she sold in 2010. Marsha is an International Past President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and recipient of the Burton Marsh Lifetime Service Award as well as the Theodore Matson Memorial Award. She recently completed her term on the American Society of Civil Engineers Board of Directors. \nMarsha earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Masters in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. She also holds a Masters of Civil Engineering from Princeton University. Marsha is the author of hundreds of publications\, articles and studies and an International speaker on technical subjects as well as Leadership and Ethics.  She is also the Mom of three\, stepmom to three\, has 4 in-law children\, 3 stepgrands and 1 grand. \nPANELISTS\nArtie Jones\, III\nDirector of Economic Development / Executive Director of Clearly College Park\nCity of College Park\, GA\nArtie Jones\, III was appointed to the position of Director of Economic Development for the City of College Park\, in October of 2013.  Jones utilization of industry standards\, combined with a progressive approach has transformed College Park into one of the most sought after places to do business in metro Atlanta. \nArtie has also developed College Park’s 1st Tax Allocation District located in downtown College Park. College Park’s first tax allocation district is anticipated to attract over $1.2 billion in development to the new Airport City Project.  He and his team announced the arrival of BMW’s $15 million technical training facility to locate at the Georgia International Convention Center’s Gateway Campus.  The facility will attract 8k to 10k trainees annually to College Park Georgia correlating into significant tax revenues captured in College Park hotels and restaurants. \nArtie is now working on establishing College Park’s second tax allocation district along College Parks Old National Highway and Godby Road area.  This redevelopment area will have a significant impact to the canvas of College Park\, as there are huge gains anticipated from the relocation of those hotels and industry impacted by the development of the ATL’s sixth runway. \nMason Ailstock\nPresident\nRowen Foundation\nMason Ailstock is a recognized leader in innovation districts and anchor-driven developments. With nearly 20 years’ experience working with non-profit institutions\, governments and industry\, Mason has a track record of converging real estate\, academia\, and business to advance communities of innovation. Immersed in the planning and visioning of Rowen\, Mason is responsible for project leadership and operations as President of Rowen Foundation\, the non-profit steward that ensures the long-term vision for Rowen is never compromised. \nPrior to leading Rowen\, Mason served as the Chief Operating Officer of Research Triangle Park the largest research park in North America. Mason is the Past President of the Association of University Research Parks (AURP)\, Co-Chairman of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) University Development & Innovation Council\, a member of the ULI Center for Leadership\, and the Global Eisenhower Fellowships. \nEric Pinckney\nProject Executive\, Commercial Real Estate\nIntegral\nEric L. Pinckney is the Project Executive responsible for the implementation of Assembly in Doraville\, GA\, which is a 145 acre\, 10 million square foot redevelopment of the former General Motors plant in metro Atlanta and one of the largest transit oriented developments in the United States. He has been affiliated with Integral since the company’s inception in 1993. Mr. Pinckney has over 25 years of real estate industry experience\, including $1.5 billion in multifamily development and $100 million in public improvements. His know-how encompasses engineering design\, construction management\, project management\, and real estate development. \nMr. Pinckney earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of Leadership Atlanta Class of 2013\, and currently serves on the boards of the Georgia Tech Fellowship of Christian Athletes\, and the Arthur Blank YMCA. \nClyde Higgs\nPresident & CEO\nAtlanta BeltLine\, Inc.\nClyde Higgs currently serves as CEO & President of Atlanta BeltLine\, Inc. In this role he leads the executive team in providing oversight of the Economic Development\, Design & Construction\, Real Estate Development\, Housing\, Procurement\, and Human Resources activities of ABI.  He also lends his leadership to establishing and expanding strong working relationships with private and public partners across the region\, state and nation.
